Tuke and Bell is one of the UKs leading manufacturers of sewage purification equipment with ninety years experience in design and production.
The latest computer aided design systems are used to produce a wide range of high quality equipment, serving the needs of both the water industry and domestic customers.
The 'Ideal' distributor is designed and patented by Tuke & Bell. A self-dosing, underfed machine, it was specially developed for the smaller sewage treatment works with filter beds from 4.5 m to 10 m diameter. Distribution is by means of two 'V' notched, galvanised, trough type arms formed around 63.5 mm diameter tubes, having large gunmetal bushed holes facing upwards. The machine will pass up to 1.9 l/s.
The power required to rotate the machine is derived from two small water-wheels housed in the central container to which the distributing arms are attached. A rubber tyred driving wheel secured to each water-wheel runs on an aluminium track ring attached to the bottom of the container. The revolving portion of the machine is suspended from a crown piece which has a self-lubricating bearing. The steady rollers fitted beneath the tank are nylon and run on stainless steel spindles. No lubrication is required.
The unique design of the distributing arms used with 'Ideal' distributors comprises a tubular arm with side plates attached along its length to form a shallow trough. One of the side plates is serrated along its top edge and the effluent flows through large bushed holes into the trough. It is then delivered onto the filter bed through 'V' notches along the whole length of the arm.
This unique type of distributing arm ensures a good and even distribution over the whole bed, necessitating far less cleaning than any other form of revolving distributor. Quick-release plug type end caps are fitted to the arms for easy flushing out, and the trough and 'V' notches are easily and quickly cleaned by brushing.
The suspension rods are of galvanised steel and straining screws are provided for easy adjustment.
The 'Blake' distributor is a self-contained, syphon-dosed, reaction type, overfed machine designed for the smaller sewage treatment works, with filter beds from 3 m to 10 m diameter. It is particularly useful when operating in connection with low rate pumped flows and where the distribution by spray jets is called for. The machine will pass up to 1.9 l/s.
The self-dosing syphon is housed in a galvanised mild-steel central container, mounted on a cast-iron body having two sprinkler arms attached. No separate dosing chamber is necessary. The revolving portion of the machine is mounted on a ball bearing central pillar on which the whole machine rotates.
The mild-steel tubular arms fitted with EPDM "Pop-In" jets, are designed to spread the effluent evenly over the media. The suspension rods are of galvanised steel and arranged to give both vertical and lateral support and are provided with screwed ends for easy adjustment. A steel cylindrical shield is also provided which fits around the base piece to prevent the media obstructing the rotating parts.
In operation, the effluent is delivered into the central container by overhead feed pipe and is collected there until sufficient depth of liquid accumulates to operate the syphon. The effluent is delivered to the distributing arms at ample pressure to rotate the machine and to distribute the effluent over the filter bed.
The Rectangular Series distributor features a specially designed, 'V' notched, fixed distributing trough. They are highly efficient arrangements, acting over the widest possible surface area.
A choice of either single or double acting versions is available to meet the requirements of various filter bed areas and filter bed capacities. Employing a Rectangular Series arrangement ensures maximum use of the site area is achieved.
SINGLE ACTING TYPE
This type of distributor features 'V' notched distribution channels, which offer a greater number of distribution points over a given area and ensures the loss of filter bed area below the tipper is extremely small.
These channels, together with the tipper and its container, are manufactured from galvanised mild steel. The bearing in which the tipper spindle is housed is a special type, requiring no lubrication or attention of any kind. The housing is self-aligning and resiliently mounted, which ensures silent and reliable operation.
Distributors, dosed by a single acting tipper, are manufactured for filter bed sizes ranging from 2135 x 765 mm to 3050 x 1830 mm.
DOUBLE ACTING TYPE
For larger filter beds, it is preferable to employ the double acting type distributor. This comprises a double acting tipper housed in a container, fixed across the centre of the filter bed, with 'V' notched channels at each side.
This type is recommended for filters over 3.5 m in length, to avoid the use of excessively long distributing channels and to ensure that when the tipper operates, the flush of liquid reaches the end of the channels to provide even dosage over the whole of the filter bed. Construction is from galvanised mild steel.
Distributors dosed by double acting tippers are manufactured for filter bed sizes ranging from 2820 x 1220 mm to 7390 x 3050 mm.
Special sizes can be readily manufactured for both types, if required.
